    How to use it

    Import the .svg (or .dxf) into your laser software — LightBurn, Glowforge, xTool Creative Space, or your CNC app. The design is sized in real millimetres, so it lands at the right scale. In cut mode every path is a hairline so it maps to a cut/score layer; in engrave mode shapes are filled so they map to a fill/engrave layer. Assign your power/speed and run a test on scrap first.

    Cut vs engrave: generate one pack per operation if your design needs both (e.g. engrave the logo, cut the outline). Vector files scale losslessly — resize freely in your laser software. EPS not included; SVG and DXF cover virtually every laser and CNC workflow.

    How laser file prep works

    One generate step builds both output formats from the same normalized geometry, so the SVG and DXF always match.

    After you load artwork, pick an operation. Cut / score strips fills and outputs every path as a hairline stroke, matching how a laser follows a single-pass cut or score line. Engrave keeps shapes filled, matching how a laser rasters or fills an area rather than tracing its edge. Set a target width in millimetres and the tool scales the whole design to that size while keeping its aspect ratio — the height is calculated automatically and shown next to the width field. Clicking Generate laser files runs two conversions off the same scaled geometry: a laser-ready SVG (viewBox and dimensions set in millimetres so it opens at true size in LightBurn, Glowforge's interface, or xTool Creative Space) and a DXF in millimetre units for CAD or CNC toolpath software, with the entity count shown in the spec list. If the source SVG is unusually dense — the kind of high path count you get from auto-tracing a photo — the tool warns you before the DXF export gets unwieldy and points to the Converter's Optimize pass or Logo Rescue to simplify first. The download pack bundles both files plus a plain-text README with the operation, size, and a reminder to test on scrap before a full run.

    Is this laser cutting file prep tool free?
    Yes, generating and previewing the laser SVG and DXF is free to try in your browser. Downloading the finished files or the full .zip pack may require a one-time purchase or Studio Pass depending on the file.

    Which laser software and machines does it work with?
    The SVG and DXF import into LightBurn, Glowforge, xTool Creative Space, and most CNC or laser toolpath software, since both files are sized in real millimetres so artwork lands at the correct scale.

    What is the difference between Cut/score and Engrave mode?
    Cut/score mode outputs hairline outlines with no fill, so the laser follows each path as a cut or score line. Engrave mode outputs solid filled shapes, so the laser burns the filled areas instead of tracing outlines.

    Does it upload my artwork anywhere?
    No, every conversion runs locally in your browser. Your SVG, PNG, JPG, or WebP file is not sent to a server — except the optional AI edit assistant, when you use it.

    Does it produce EPS files?
    No, this tool outputs SVG and DXF only. Those two formats cover essentially every laser cutter and CNC workflow, so EPS is not generated.

    What happens with very complex traced artwork?
    If an SVG has an unusually high path count (typical of a raster-style auto-trace), the tool flags it as too complex, since the resulting DXF would be huge and slow to cut, and suggests simplifying it first with the Converter's Optimize step or Logo Rescue.
