How ThreadProof digitizes your artwork

ThreadProof does not trace an outline and call it done. When you upload a logo, drawing, or photo, it first runs Artwork Doctor to classify the image and flag likely problems — gradients, tiny text, disconnected specks — then auto-vectorizes raster files (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP) into clean regions. From there it posterizes the design into a limited thread-color palette (2–10 colors depending on the version) and fills every region with real serpentine stitch rows plus a border stitch, rather than a hollow running-stitch outline. It builds three versions in parallel — Balanced, Low Stitch, and Premium — each with different stitch length and fill density, so you can trade off stitch count against detail. Every version gets a ThreadProof score across seven sub-metrics (density, color changes, trims, hoop fit, stitch count, pull resistance, small-detail risk) computed from the actual generated stitch data, not a guess. A fail-closed quality gate then checks whether the result is genuinely filled embroidery — if it looks like an outline instead of filled thread, downloads are blocked until you apply a one-click fix (enlarge, simplify, increase fill density, or switch use case). Today's machine-file export covers DST, EXP, and JEF, with PES on the roadmap; DST alone already opens on the overwhelming majority of home and commercial machines via USB.

Can this convert a PNG or logo to DST, PES, JEF, or EXP?

It converts a PNG, JPG, WebP, or SVG image into a proofed, filled embroidery design and exports it as DST, EXP, or JEF today. PES export is on the roadmap — in the meantime nearly every machine, including Brother and Baby Lock, reads DST straight from a USB stick.

Is this an AI embroidery digitizer or just a logo-to-DST converter?

Both — it auto-vectorizes your image, posterizes it into thread colors, and fills each region with real stitch rows and borders, then simulates the stitch-out and scores it before you export, which is the job of an AI digitizer rather than a simple line-tracer.

Is it free to use?

Yes, it's free to try in your browser — you can upload artwork, generate three proofed versions, and watch the full stitch simulation at no cost. Downloading the machine file requires a one-time purchase or a Studio Pass.

Does my artwork get uploaded to a server?

No — every step, from vectorizing your logo to simulating the stitch-out, everything runs in your browser; your artwork is only sent to our server if you choose to use the optional AI edit assistant.

What does the ThreadProof stitchability score check?

It scores stitch density, thread-color changes, trims and jumps, hoop fit, stitch count, pull resistance, and small-detail risk, then flags high, medium, and low-severity warnings with one-click repairs before you download.

Can I turn a logo into embroidery for hats, polos, or patches?
